Margerum Wine Company is committed to creating handcrafted wines using only the highest quality grapes and to making terroir-driven wines. We source from our Estate Vineyard in the Los Olivos District and top vineyards throughout Santa Barbara County. We strive to make wines naturally that have individual characteristics and personalities. The scale of production is kept at a level where we can touch and know it as it is raised to the bottle – the antithesis of mass production. The standards of quality are measured by our criteria – not by external sources. We make wines we personally enjoy – some to drink young; others for long aging in cool cellars for our children to enjoy. BARDEN, on the other hand exclusively focuses on the Sta. Rita Hills terroir. The grapes for Barden wines are sourced solely from this region, renowned for its diverse, marine-based soils and a climate characterized by refrigerated sunlight. This specific environment is ideal for growing grapes that yield wines with higher acidity, lower alcohol levels, fine textures, deep concentration, and the capacity to age gracefully. Barden's portfolio prominently features bold, earthy Pinot Noirs and complex, rich Chardonnays, exemplifying the classic typicity of the Sta. Rita Hills.
In essence, while both BARDEN and Margerum wines share a commitment to quality and the expression of their terroir, BARDEN focuses on a more specific region with a specialized approach to certain varietals, whereas Margerum encompasses a wider range of grape varieties and styles, reflecting the diverse terroirs of Santa Barbara County.
