I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted with Doug Margerum this year. As always, Margerum favors a style built on energy and vibrancy. In the past, I have found some of the wines a bit austere, but these releases all show a bit more flesh, which makes the wines, in my view, more friendly and easy to like. The biggest development here is Margerum's long-term lease of the former Honea Vineyard in Los Olivos, which is now the Margerum Estate Vineyard that informs a number of these wines.
